Artisan Made Faux Pearls and AB Rhinestones Comb

Ref: VT-0903-002

This beautiful and rather glitzy side comb features a trellis of antiqued gold tone metal to which are hand wired small metal flowers, faux pearls and AB rhinestones. The technique and components used are similar to that of a Miriam Haskell comb but there is no signature. Each of the flowers is made up of AB rhinestones with a spherical pearl placed in the middle. They are surrounded by gold tone leaves and clusters of faux pearls placed upon flexible wires.

It is made in the elaborate neo-Baroque style which came into fashion from the early 1950s and probably dates from the mid to late 1950s. There is some wear to the faux pearls but this is still a very pretty and wearable example of a vintage hair comb. The pictures on the mannequin demonstrate that it looks very classy in a fashionable messy bun or a classic French pleat.

Size: 2 x 4 ins (approx 5 x 10 cms)

Baroque Faux Pearls and AB Rhinestones Hinged Comb

Ref: VT-0903-003

This beautiful and rather glitzy side comb features a formalised heading smothered with faux pearls and AB rhinestones. The pearls are found in both spherical and marquise shapes. They are interspersed with spherical clear and AB rhinestones set on metal stalks.

The heading is set on a rotating hinge which attaches it to the clear Lucite comb mount. This means that the ornament is adaptable to various positions within the hair and grips firmly. A lovely and very wearable hair accessory with great charm. It is made in the elaborate neo-Baroque style which came into fashion from the early 1950s and probably dates from the mid to late 1950s.

The final illustration is taken from a contemporary ad in American Hairdresser 1960 and shows contemporary hair accessories in the elaborate Baroque style.
