Pair Silver Tone & Cerise Faux Pearl Side Combs
Ref: VT-0908-006
This attractive pair of silver tone hair combs is made in the distinctive neo Baroque design and is typical of the late 1950s or early 1960s when more elaborate styles took over from the severe geometry of Art Deco.
The design is based upon a clear Lucite comb mount with and elaborate heading which suggests curled up leaves and fruits. The leaves are nicely modelled and the fruits are made from deep cerise purple faux pearls.
The final illustration is taken from a contemporary ad in American Vogue and shows a model with a hair accessory in the elaborate Baroque style.

Enamel & Faux Pearl Side Combs
Ref: VT-0908-007
This is a pretty matched pair of mid 20th century side combs in the neo Baroque style. The design is based upon a clear Lucite comb mount with split prongs and an elaborate gilt metal heading.
This has been designed as a formalised flower spray with silver tone flowers having large spherical faux pearls in their centres. They are surrounded by leaves decorated in black enamel.
The final illustration is taken from a contemporary ad in American Vogue and shows a model with a hair accessory in the elaborate Baroque style.

Two Fancy Baroque Style Side Combs
Ref: VT-1208-002
Here we have a handsome due or two pretty side combs made in the typical style of the mid to later 20th century. Both feature a formalised floral design which is one of the most popular treatments in comb headings of this period.
The first comb features a formalised cluster of pink and blue pear shaped faux pearls combined with scrollwork. The companion piece has three large flowers made from red and gold tone metal with large spherical faux pearls set in the centres.
The final illustration is taken from a contemporary ad in American Hairdresser 1960 and shows contemporary hair accessories in the elaborate Baroque style.

Baroque Style Rhinestone & Faux Pearl Tiara
Ref: VT-1208-004
This very beautiful and elaborate vintage tiara is made in the neo Baroque design which is typical of the mid 20th century when more elaborate styles took over from the severe geometry of Art Deco. It is made in gilt metal and features three filigree roundels arranged in a triangle at the centre front. Each has a border of large claw set rhinestones and a spherical faux pearl set in the centre.
The sturdy construction is typical of vintage jewellery made in the Czech Republic and it may be from that region. The tiara is fitted with two combs at the extremities to keep it in place.
The final illustration shows the film star Audrey Hepburn wearing a similar style of tiara from a film of the 1960s.

Circular Design Barrette Signed Le Galant
Ref: VT-0109-002
This quality French made hair barrette is signed Le Galant, made in France, Brevite. It is an attractive circular design with gold tone metal fittings which resemble groups of leaves.
The back shows the older double loop and bar metal wire fastening which is more typical of the mid 20th century.

This handsome little side comb was made in the Czech Republic in the later 20th century. It has a brass comb mount with split prongs and an elaborate heading set with an oval blue simulated opal cabochon and surrounded by blue and pale green prong set rhinestones.
The neo Baroque style is typical of Czech jewellery and harks back to an earlier period of production and design. The comb is in excellent condition and appears to have never been worn.
The last illustration is taken from a contemporary hair comb ad in a magazine and shows a similar design.

This handsome neo Baroque style little side comb was made in the Czech Republic in the mid to later 20th century. The neo Baroque style is typical of Czech jewellery and harks back to an earlier period of hand made production and design. It has a brass comb mount with split prongs and an elaborate heading set with an oval blue and pink simulated opal cabochon. This is surrounded by red and pale green prong set rhinestones in a sunray design.
The comb is in excellent condition and appears to have never been worn.
The last illustration is taken from a contemporary hair comb ad in a magazine and shows a selection of hair combs of similar design dating from the 1960s.

Vintage Pink Faux Pearl Side Comb
Ref: VT-0109-006
This is a very pretty mid 20th century side comb with a hinge that allows the heading to rotate. It is designed in the motif of a leaf spray and the asymmetrical styling is typical of the period.
The prong set cabochons are marquise shaped and alternate between a dusky pink glass and faux pearl. It is mounted upon a brass hinge which connects to a pale amber comb mount with split prongs.
There is some expected wear to the faux pearl and verdigris on the back of the heading which can be removed with a proprietary cleaner. We leave that to the buyer! However this is still a very pretty comb and typical of its period.

Pair Bow Design Clear Rhinestone Barrettes

The rhinestone jewellery of the 1950s and early 1960s was often almost as glitzy and larger than life as that of the 1980s. This handsome pair of bow design rhinestone barrettes is certainly on style, and could be worn today with considerable effect for a glamorous occasion.
The motif features large prong set clear rhinestones in both spherical and marquise shapes and the mounting is silver tone metal. This combination of different shapes and types of rhinestones is one of the hallmarks of quality jewellery of this era.
