Faux Turquoise Flowers Side Comb
Ref: VT-0808-020
This beautiful hair comb was made in France and is back stamped accordingly. It is typical of neo Baroque design and was probably made in the mid 20th century.
The comb has the usual faux tortoiseshell comb mount with split prongs. The heading is decorated with three large floral motifs which are in the form of marguerites.
They have marquise shaped petals made up of prong set faux turquoise. A large turquoise cabochon is set in the centre of each one.

Miriam Haskell White Beads Hair Comb
Ref: VT-0808-021
This attractive hair comb is made and signed on the back by the famous American designer Miriam Haskell and is typical of the work produced by the company during the 1970s.
The faux tortoise comb mount has a heading of hand wired beads and elements in gold tone metal and ceramic disk shaped beads in a white. Haskell combs are always hand wired and carefully made. The signature can be clearly seen on the back.

Pair of Neo Baroque Gold Tone Metal Side Combs
Ref: VT-0808-022
This diminutive paid of neo Baroque design hair combs is typical of the late 1940s or early 1950s when more elaborate styles took over from the severe geometry of Art Deco.
These pretty combs have been hand cut from sheet brass and hand assembled. They have an elaborate floral and scrollwork heading which is decorated with a red rhinestone in the centre.

Pair Oval Gold Tone Metal Barrettes
Ref: VT-0808-012
This pretty pair of gold tone hair barrettes was probably made in the late 1940s or 1950s. The ornaments are typical of a more elaborate design called neo Baroque which took over from the severe geometry of Art Deco in the late 1930s and 1940s. They are oval in shape with an attractive openwork effect and a double bar closing mechanism.

Purple & AB Rhinestone Cluster Side Comb
Ref: VT-0908-002
This very attractive comb has a floral motif made with deep purple and lavender marquise shaped stones forming the leaves and flowers. The latter have large claw set AB rhinestones set at their centres.
The elaborate comb heading appears to be hand wired on to a separate gold tone metal mount. The comb probably dates from the mid to later 20th century.

Bow Design Rhinestone Hair Clip Comb

This versatile little ornament dates from the mid 20th century and is made in the formalised outline of a bow shape which is encrusted with clear prong set rhinestones.
The heading us attached by a rotating clip which is fixed on at one end. This means that the accessory can be worn not only as a hair accessory but as a dress or sweater ornament.

This attractive spring mounted hair comb is made in the distinctive neo Baroque design and is typical of the late 1950s or early 1960s when more elaborate styles took over from the severe geometry of Art Deco.
The design is based upon a formalised wreath in which slightly cloudy marquise shaped stones forming the “leaves” contrast with small bright rhinestones in the bunches of “fruit.”
The final illustration is taken from a contemporary ad in American Hairdresser 1960 and shows contemporary hair accessories in the elaborate Baroque style.

Hair Comb and Barrette Set
Ref: VT-0109-001
Both the side comb and the barrette of this attractive matching set appear to be in unusual condition. The comb is back stamped Made in USA and the spring clip of the barrette Made in France.
These attractive ornaments which have a neo baroque look were made by the 1928 Jewellery Company which has always specialised in quality jewellery with a vintage look.
The design features an elaborate filigree bow shape set with glass cabochons in pink and turquoise.

Pair Baroque Faux Pearl Hinged Side Combs
Ref: VT-0902-008
This beautiful little pair of faux pearl combs is made in the elaborate neo-baroque style which came into fashion from the early 1950s and probably dates from the mid to late 1950s. It features both spherical and marquise shaped faux pearl cabochons arranged in a double flower shape. The petals are made of marquise shaped faux pearl with a spherical one placed in the centre.
The heading of each comb is set on a rotating hinge which attaches it to the clear Lucite comb mount. This means that the ornament is adaptable to various positions within the hair and grips firmly. These pretty little ornaments are known as scatter combs because they were using in the extremely elaborate updos of the late 1950s and 1960s, and were scattered about the evening dressing.
