Lee Menichetti Designer Beaded Hair Comb

Ref: SD-0908-004

This item was handmade by American fashion designer Lee Menichetti. A native New Yorker Menichetti was famed as an innovator in the design of handmade jewellery and glamorous accessories for over 30 years. Most of his works were one off pieces for haute couture and the theatre.

This one probably dates from the 1960s or 1970s. A metal mounting containing large red rhinestones is attached to a clear Lucite comb mount. From this depend a number of flexible wire looks each of which are strung with clear glass bugle beads.

Re-enactors “Medieval” Goldtone and Amethyst Circlet

Ref: SD-0908-009

This unusual ornament is a handmade gold tone circlet with a very medieval look. It is made from gold tone wire which has been interlaced and twisted for a very elaborate look. It is claw set across the centre with three faceted faux amethysts.

This pretty circlet is adjustable to a number of head sizes being quite flexible and closes at the back with a loop and chain fastening as shown. It would work for re-enactment or fancy dress in a Medieval, Celtic or Elven look.

Size: Adjustable with max diameter of 7½ ins (19 cms)
        1¼ ins (3 cms) deep at centre front

Miriam Haskell Fall Beaded Hair Comb

This pretty side comb is signed by Miriam Haskell. The back of the heading has the classic gold signature cartouche and the flower shaped studs which are typical of Haskell combs.

Haskell jewellery is known for its use of elaborate filigree and careful wiring, all handmade and accommodating a variety of designs. The heading is adorned with ceramic beads which resemble pebbles.

This comb probably dates from the 1970s when there was a trend for jewellery and accessories featuring natural looking materials like pebbles.

Haskell jewellery is known for its use of elaborate filigree and careful wiring, all handmade and accommodating a variety of designs. There is a large red ceramic sphere in the centre flanked by beads in natural and dyed bone.

This comb probably dates from the 1970s when there was a trend for jewellery and accessories featuring natural materials like bone and ceramics.

Haskell jewellery is known for its use of elaborate filigree and careful wiring, all handmade and accommodating a variety of designs. The comb shows a line of aventurine chips alternative with pale blue glass beads across the top of the heading.

This one probably dates from the 1970s when there was a trend for jewellery and accessories featuring natural materials like these aventurine chips.

Pair White “Kiss” Hair Combs

This unusual pair of combs is part of the merchandise produced in the 1980s to celebrate the Glam Rock group Kiss.

The combs are back stamped Rainsford Australia where they were produced and nowadays have an iconic appeal.
