Lee Menichetti Designer Beaded Headdress

Ref: SD-0908-001

This item was handmade by American fashion designer Lee Menichetti. A native New Yorker Menichetti was famed as an innovator in the design of handmade jewellery and glamorous accessories for over 30 years.

Most of his works were one off pieces for haute couture and the theatre. This one probably dates from the 1960s or 1970s. It consists of three headbands joined at each side.

They are covered with silver leather from which arise a profusion of flexible wires which are threaded with iridescent blue and silver bugle beads. Each wire terminates in a faceted crystal sphere. A truly wonderful and unique headdress!

Size: Bands are flexible and will adapt to a
        maximum width of 6½ ins (15 cms)

        Total width of the headdress is 12 ins
        (30 cms) and the height 3½ ins (8.5 cms)

This one probably dates from the 1960s or 1970s. It consists of a clear hair comb to which is attached a large cluster of faux pearl and crystal ornaments which are strung onto flexible wires.

Some of the wires in the centre form hoops while those at the sides form clusters which spring out. Each wire terminates in an elaborate arrangement of pearl clusters and faceted crystal spheres.

Size: Max width 8½ ins (21 cms)
        Max depth 4½ ins (11 cms)

Miriam Haskell Gold and Pearl Dangles Hair Comb

This pretty side comb is signed by Miriam Haskell, one of the most celebrated names in 20th century jewellery. The back of the heading has the classic gold signature cartouche and the flower shaped studs which are typical of Haskell combs.

Haskell jewellery is known for its use of elaborate filigree and careful wiring, all handmade and accommodating a variety of designs. The comb shows an attractive design with two gold tone motifs hanging from a length of fancy chain which is attached to a faux tortoiseshell comb. The motifs comprise concentric circles of faux pearl and beaten gold tone.

This probably dates from the 1970s when there was a lingering hippie influence for hair accessories with dangling pendants.

This one probably dates from the 1970s when there was a trend for jewellery and accessories featuring natural materials like bone and ceramics.

This item was handmade by American fashion designer Lee Menichetti. A native New Yorker Menichetti was famed as an innovator in the design of handmade jewellery and glamorous accessories for over 30 years.Most of his works were one off pieces for haute couture and the theatre.

This one probably dates from the 1960s or 1970s. The barrette is worked upon a stiffened foundation of silver leather with a silver tone metal clip attached to the back.

The decoration takes the form of a flower spray which is intricately worked in pink and white glass bugle beads with a pink rhinestone centre in the large flower.

Size: 5½ x 2½ ins (approx 14 x 6 cms)
