Figural Leopard Motif Side Comb

This intriguing and unusual figural golden leopard hair comb is back stamped MADE IN USA and is typical of the mid 1980s. The decade saw resurgence in the use of plastic ornaments. Stripes and polka dot patterns were popular, in addition to those imitating animal prints. The leopard has a gold tone collar with gold studs and a gold stud for an eye.

This taste for big and glitzy jewellery was promoted by the American soap operas such as Dynasty and the fashion for Big Hair which is illustrated in the final picture.

Pair Glitzy Blue and White Rhinestone Hair Combs

This handsome and very glitzy pair of matched hair combs is very much in the spirit of the 1980s, when what we now call bling became very much the fashion. This was due to the influence of US television soap operas like Dynasty which encouraged the display of glittery rhinestone jewellery.

Made from a foundation of black celluloid with large split prongs, these handsome accessories have a slightly geometric Art Deco look.
