Burgundy Dyed Celluloid Mantilla Comb

Another unusual mantilla comb, this one being of burgundy dyed opaque celluloid rather than the usual translucent variety. The oval shape is also quite unusual. The top half of the heading is solid, with a fluted shell like effect. The bottom, near the tines, has an openwork pattern of scrollwork and leaves.

The ornament has an attractive slightly scalloped profile. Worn with a mantilla veil the comb produces a high, narrow and much exaggerated effect, as seen upon the mannequin.

The final picture dates from the mid 20th century and shows a young Spanish woman dressed for church.
